Verten Academy — Legal
Terms of Service
These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of Verten Academy — the online learning and certification platform operated by Workforce Development and Management Corp. (“WDMC”, “Verten”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy.
1. Agreement to these Terms
You accept these Terms when you check the acceptance box during registration, and each time you continue to use the platform after an updated version takes effect. Acceptance is recorded together with the Terms version in effect at that time. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use Verten Academy.
If you use the platform on behalf of an organisation (for example as an employer, staffing agency, or education institution), you confirm that you are authorised to bind that organisation, and “you” includes that organisation.
2. Eligibility and your account
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
- You must provide accurate, current, and complete information at registration and keep it up to date.
- Your account is personal to you. You may not share your login credentials, transfer your account, or allow anyone else to complete coursework, quizzes, or assessments on your behalf.
- You are responsible for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately at hello@verten.ca if you suspect unauthorised use.
3. Courses, enrollment, and access windows
Enrolling in a course grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to access that course for the enrollment period shown at the time of enrollment. Access windows are enforced automatically:
- Each enrollment has a completion deadline. We send reminders as your deadline approaches; when the window ends, the enrollment expires and course access closes.
- Extensions to an expired or expiring enrollment may be granted at our discretion and are not guaranteed.
- Course content and structure may be updated or corrected from time to time. We will not materially reduce the substance of a course you are actively enrolled in.
4. Payments, taxes, and refunds
- Paid enrollments are billed in Canadian dollars (CAD) and processed by our payment provider, Stripe. We do not store your full card details on our systems.
- Applicable taxes are added at checkout where required by law.
- Promotional pricing and coupons apply only during the stated promotional period and cannot be applied retroactively.
- Refund requests are reviewed case by case. Contact us at hello@verten.ca within 14 days of purchase if you believe a charge was made in error or a course is materially not as described. Completed courses and issued certificates are not refundable.
- Payment records are retained for seven (7) years as required by Canada Revenue Agency record-keeping rules.
5. Certificates and verification
- Certificates are issued on successful course completion, carry a unique certificate code, and can be independently confirmed through our public certificate verification service.
- The public verification page displays only the certificate holder’s name, the course name, the completion date, and the certificate’s validity status.
- We may revoke a certificate where it was obtained through fraud, academic dishonesty, or a breach of these Terms. A revoked certificate is flagged as revoked on the verification page.
- Altering, forging, or misrepresenting a Verten certificate — or presenting someone else’s certificate as your own — is strictly prohibited and may result in account termination and legal action.
6. Intellectual property
All course content, certifications, platform features, matching algorithms, and data structures are proprietary to Workforce Development and Management Corp. Reproduction, redistribution, reverse engineering, or resale of any content or feature is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate account termination and legal action.
Your enrollment grants you a licence to view and use course materials for your own personal learning only. It does not transfer any ownership and does not permit downloading, recording, copying, or sharing course videos, documents, or assessments. See our IP & Copyright Notice for details, including how to report infringement.
7. Acceptable use
Your use of the platform is subject to our Acceptable Use Policy, which forms part of these Terms. In short: no content scraping or bulk downloading, no account sharing, no cheating on assessments, no attempts to probe or circumvent platform security, and no unlawful, harassing, or deceptive conduct.
8. AI-powered features
Some features use artificial intelligence to generate recommendations and guidance (for example course recommendations and skills-gap assessments). AI outputs are assistive only:
- They are generated automatically and may be incomplete or inaccurate. Review them before relying on them; they are not professional, legal, immigration, or career advice.
- AI features depend on third-party providers and may occasionally be unavailable. Temporary unavailability of an AI feature is not a defect in the service.
9. Privacy
Our collection and use of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. You can request deletion of your personal data as described in our Data Deletion Request page.
10. Suspension and termination
- You may stop using the platform and request account deletion at any time.
- We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, if required by law, or to protect the platform and its users. Where reasonable, we will notify you of the reason.
- On termination, your licence to access course content ends. Certificates you have already earned remain valid (unless revoked for cause) and remain verifiable.
11. Disclaimers
Verten Academy provides training and certification. We do not guarantee employment, job placement, immigration outcomes, licensing outcomes, or any particular career result. The platform is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by law.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, WDMC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or loss of opportunity arising from your use of the platform. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the platform is limited to the amount you paid to us in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make a material change, we will show you the updated Terms in-app and ask you to accept them before continuing to use the platform. The “Last updated” date and version at the top of this page identify the current Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Ontario, Canada for any dispute arising out of these Terms, subject to any mandatory consumer protection rights available in your province of residence.
